Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's future with the Chennai Super Kings is uncertain as he seeks clarity on his role for the IPL 2026 season. Ashwin has reportedly expressed his willingness to leave CSK if he doesn't feature in their long-term plans.
Having returned to his home franchise in the 2025 mega auction for a substantial INR 9.75 crore, Ashwin had a disappointing season. He played only nine matches, the fewest since his IPL debut, and recorded a career-high economy rate of 9.12. With the IPL 2026 auction approaching, Ashwin's retention talks with CSK are ongoing.
The retention deadline is yet to be finalized, but the trade window remains open until a week before the auction. Ashwin has hinted at a possible trade during a recent conversation with Sanju Samson. His departure would also entail stepping down from his position as Director of Operations at the CSK Academy to avoid conflicts of interest.
