Former India captain Anil Kumble believes that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will likely hold back their new ₹7 crore signing, Venkatesh Iyer, from the starting XI at the beginning of the next IPL season. Speaking as a JioStar expert, Kumble suggested that the defending champions prioritize maintaining the cohesion of their title-winning squad rather than immediately integrating new players.
Iyer, who was acquired by RCB after a successful stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, was reportedly signed with the No. 3 role in mind. However, Kumble noted that unsettling a successful team is generally avoided, pointing out that existing players like Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma performed well last season.
While Iyer brings significant value, having scored 1,468 runs in the IPL at a strike rate of 137, his inclusion may be gradual as the team seeks to preserve its winning momentum. The analysis suggests that despite his high price tag, Iyer may need to wait for his opportunity in a settled RCB lineup.

“Venkatesh Iyer will not be in the playing eleven at the start. You do not want to create doubt in a winning team.”

The IPL, I only played two games but every game and every occasion. Definitely, just knowing what I'm able to get out of myself when the situation is like that and when the atmosphere is like that. I definitely had a lot more confidence coming into this game after playing in front of, I don't know, 50,000 - which felt like 100,000 - at the Chinnaswamy.
