Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Jacob Bethell has highlighted the crucial role his recent IPL experience played in preparing him for the high-pressure environment of the Ashes. The 22-year-old, who made his Test debut for England in the traditional Boxing Day match, scored a composed 40 runs, helping England chase down 175 to secure a four-wicket victory.
Bethell noted that while he only featured in two matches for RCB during their title-winning campaign in IPL 2025, the exposure to massive crowds, particularly at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, provided invaluable confidence. He felt the atmosphere in Melbourne, though intense, was manageable because of the high-octane pressure he had already faced in India. This successful debut validates the benefit of young international players gaining experience in the world's premier T20 league.

“The IPL, I only played two games but every game and every occasion. Definitely, just knowing what I'm able to get out of myself when the situation is like that and when the atmosphere is like that. I definitely had a lot more confidence coming into this game after playing in front of, I don't know, 50,000 - which felt like 100,000 - at the Chinnaswamy.”

While the BCCI has mandated centrally contracted players to feature in at least two matches, Virat Kohli has opted to play a third game as part of his preparation for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

I think the timeframe will be kind on TD as well. So he should be available no matter what that injury is.
