Dewald Brevis's recent T20I century against Australia has drawn praise from Glenn Maxwell, who acknowledged the pressure Brevis faced early on due to comparisons with AB de Villiers.
Maxwell noted the "heavy burden" of the "Baby AB" nickname and how Brevis was quickly pushed into the international spotlight. However, Maxwell commended Brevis's improved game, describing his bat swing as "pure" and difficult to contain. Brevis's unbeaten 125 off 56 balls in the second T20I against Australia underscored his explosive batting style and potential.
Brevis's IPL 2025 stint with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) saw him score 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180, including two half-centuries. This performance solidified his T20 credentials after a less consistent period with Mumbai Indians
Now, Brevis is being considered for South Africa's ODI squad against Australia, adding another chapter to his rapidly developing career.
“It’s a pretty heavy burden he had to have early in his career. He probably got fast-tracked a little bit into the South African side. He’s gone away, worked on his game, and he’s come back playing beautifully. His bat swing is really pure—he’s hard to stop when he gets going.”
