Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Harshit Rana has established himself as India’s most successful bowler in One Day Internationals since the beginning of 2025. The 24-year-old speedster has claimed 23 wickets in just 13 ODI innings since his international debut in February 2025, topping the national bowling charts ahead of established veterans like Kuldeep Yadav (20 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (12 wickets) during the same period.
Rana's success is attributed to his ability to consistently bowl above 140 kmph, providing aggressive breakthroughs, particularly in the powerplay overs. His impact has been immediate, failing to take a wicket in only two of his 13 appearances. As India prepares for future ICC tournaments, Rana’s emergence as a reliable wicket-taker offers the national side a crucial aggressive edge, building on his multi-format success across Tests and T20Is.

I think Harshit is pulling his weight in the side. He bats decently. Of course, he has been selected with promise because very few bowlers bowl at 140 kph and give batting at No. 8. You have a contender for the World Cup, where if you need a pacer and not a spinner at No. 8, you can always have Harshit there.
What impresses me most is that he wants the ball in his hand. He didn’t play the first two games, got his opportunity in this game, and ran in hard and fast. You rarely see a captain push an opening bowler through three overs straight away, but both opening bowlers did that. It shows that Harshit Rana really wants to be part of this team.
At the position I usually bat, people see me more as a ‘finisher', but I don't believe I can only play that role. I can bat anywhere. I've batted in the powerplay in domestic cricket and for India. I've scored all three of my fifties in the powerplay.
