Irfan Pathan Calls for Greater Appreciation of Suryakumar Yadav's 'Staggering' Captaincy Record

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has strongly advocated for greater recognition of Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy record, calling it "outstanding yet underrated." Pathan highlighted that the current India T20I captain boasts a staggering 74.41 per cent success rate across 43 matches, a figure only marginally behind Rohit Sharma.

Pathan praised the skipper's relaxed demeanor and effective management style, noting that these qualities help the team navigate the intense pressure and outside noise associated with playing at home. The former cricketer emphasized that if Suryakumar can maintain this high win percentage and secure the upcoming T20 World Cup, his leadership skills must be universally acknowledged.

Suryakumar, who is currently the third most successful Indian T20I captain historically, has also been credited by Pathan for pioneering India’s ultra-aggressive batting approach in the format. After a brief dip in form in 2025, the right-hander has rediscovered his rhythm, recently earning the Player of the Series award against New Zealand, providing a major boost to the national side ahead of the global tournament.
