The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, fresh off securing their maiden IPL title in 2025, is officially up for sale. Current owners Diageo Plc, through its subsidiary United Spirits Limited (USL), have reportedly decided to divest the team, appointing global investment bank Citi to manage the transaction. The franchise is expected to fetch a staggering valuation of around $2 billion (₹17,762 crore), a figure that would set a new financial benchmark for the league.
Former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi confirmed the rumors, noting that RCB's recent success, coupled with its massive, loyal fanbase built over years by players like Virat Kohli, makes it an extremely attractive asset. The projected valuation significantly surpasses recent transactions, such as the Torrent Group's acquisition of a stake in Gujarat Titans. Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, has emerged as the frontrunner to acquire the franchise, signaling strong interest from major global investors.
“I am sure having won the IPL last season and with its strong base of fans and great management, it could be the only team available as a whole.”
