The Karnataka Government is taking legal action against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and event management company DNA Network following a stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB's IPL 2025 victory celebration.
A report by Justice John Michael D'Cunha deemed the stadium unsuitable for large events due to design flaws and inadequate crowd management infrastructure. The stampede resulted in 11 deaths and numerous injuries, prompting the investigation.
The legal action will include both civil and criminal cases. A departmental inquiry is also underway against five suspended police officers. The report recommends that future venues adhere to international safety standards, including designated queuing areas, sufficient gates, and comprehensive evacuation plans.
